Dr. Kimberly Hoyt

Kimberly was born in Columbia, Missouri. She lived on the same hill, looking westerly over the city, until she moved to Houston for Optometry School.

After flirting briefly with Astrophysics, she graduated with a BS in Biochemistry from the University of Missouri. Near the end of her undergraduate studies she decided that she wanted to be an optometrist. “I didn't like blood, but I wanted to use my science background and to work directly with patients. Optometry was the perfect answer.”

During optometry school, she completed two externships, one at Evans Army Hospital on Ft. Carson in Colorado Springs ("We lived in the barracks!") and one at the private ophthalmology practice, The Eye Institute of San Antonio. After graduating Summa Cum Laude, she was selected to one of the most sought after Hospital Based Residency programs at American Lake in Tacoma, Washington. "it was on a lake, with Mt. Rainer in the background and the learning environment was unrivaled. It was ideal"

In 1993 she joined the staff of Medical Eye Center in Medford, Oregon. She and her husband were the first two optometrists to work in an ophthalmology practice in Southern Oregon.

In 2014, she and Michael left MEC to start Artisan Eyeworks.
