Why travel to Artisan Eyeworks?

As you would expect, most of our patients come from Ashland and Talent. After all, we are located in Ashland and Talent is right next door. We do have patients and optical clients who see other doctors, that travel from Northern California, Roseburg, even the Coast. Why?

We believe it is based on 4 factors: 1) the intentionally low volume of patients we see 2) our experience in medical and vision care 3) our selection of high quality, independent eyewear, and 4) our expertise in lens selection, particularly when it comes to progressives.

We spent 21 years practicing in a high-volume ophthalmology office. We knew when we decided to open a private practice that we wouldn’t be happy continuing at that pace. Seeing fewer patients for eye exams allows us to spend more time explaining medical and vision conditions, eyeglasses options, and to develop genuine relationships with our patients, beyond just being the eye doctor or the optician.

We are both residency trained in hospital-based optometry. That along with years in ophthalmology have given us a broad and deep background in medical and vision conditions that involve the eye. It is an uncommon mix to find, low volume, but with a high level of experience.

The bulk of all the frames sold in the world are from two companies. We decided that we could offer better quality and more unique, compelling options if we concentrated of curating glasses lines that were independent, made in Europe, Japan or the United States, and weren’t readily available at just any optometrist or optical shop.

Lastly, we delved deeply into understanding progressive lenses. Most don’t know this, but there are hundreds of progressive lenses available on the market today. Although the look the same to the naked eye, they perform vastly differently when worn. Much like you wouldn’t expect a two-seater sports car to do what a truck does, or a Mercedes to be the same as a Kia, progressives offer just as much variety in function and price. Contrary to what even most opticians believe, they are very different brand to brand and design to design. It’s not just about the prescription. The choice of lens design is a key to clear, functional vision.

There are other reasons for sure, but those are a few of the considerations that might make it worth the effort to travel from Medford, Central Point, or Jacksonville to see us. The Rogue Valley isn’t that big.
